Bearing Birth
A birth story podcast highlighting the emotional impact of birth, the immediate postpartum period, and the years beyond. Hosted by Jordan Monir, a postpartum doula and Sophie Holliday, a perinatal mental health therapist.
Jordan and Sophie aim to provide a platform for those who have experienced or supported childbirth in sharing their unique story. Both fierce advocates of mental health and community support, Jordan and Sophie attempt to reduce the stigma of openly discussing the challenges (and joys!) experienced in pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. Join us as we chat with a range of guests - from regular folks to birth workers - to explore the magic of healing through storytelling!
Bearing Birth
I'm a Water Boy! | Ryan, Part 1
Join us in a conversation with Ryan, the husband of our previous guest, Cailley (Season 1, Episodes 5 & 6). This is our first episode with a non-birthing partner sharing their experience and perspective on birth, and we absolutely loved hearing Ryan’s take! This episode is just Part 1 of Ryan’s story, so come back on September 18th for Part 2!
In Part 1, Ryan walks us through what it was like to experience a miscarriage and then his wife getting pregnant again right away. He talks about what it was like to process grief and joy simultaneously and how counseling was a helpful tool for processing and increasing connection with his wife.
It was so special to hear how differently two people can experience the same situation. Ryan also talks about ways that someone might honor the loss of a baby, and what it was like preparing for the birth of his daughter. In Part 2 we will hear about Ryan's birth experience, early postpartum months and other reflections on fatherhood.
